In the sequel, Katniss and Peeta are forced to compete in the 75th Hunger Games, known as the Quarter Quell, where they must face off against other past victors. As they fight
At my school, I joined leadership to become closer to my community; setting up school dances, cross-grade events, fundraisers, and more; all run by leadership members! Through leadership, I was able to experience many things! One experience that I had during leadership was the opportunity to run a cross-grade event! During Kindness Week -a week where Crestwood staff and students show kindness to everyone around the community - come together to create cards for the Crestwood community.
People are influenced by the ones around them; these people can have positive or negative influences. Mentors are role models for you look up to and learn from. The only way for mentors to have a positive influence is if they are heard. Listening is the key. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee creates mentors for Scout to show listening to the advice of those before you can lead to strong morals and an understanding of others.
One leadership experience I had was through my athletics at my high school. Every year, our high school volleyball program hosts a camp for young girls to come learn and develop her volleyball skills, as well as do arts and crafts and make new friends. As a varsity player, we all were assigned a different group of girls to be in charge of. We also were given a junior varsity player to help us. I became a leader in this area because I was more experinced and organized.
This definition of Leadership is best restated by my very own father “A person can demonstrate leadership skills even when not in a leadership position.” Throughout my high school years so far, I have demonstrated leadership mostly in the field of Boy Scouting in two different Troops. I started out my leadership trail in Boy Scouting by becoming a Troop Scribe who as per se the Boy Scout Handbook, 2016 Edition “The Scribe attends and keeps a log of patrol leaders’ council meetings. He records attendance and dues payments of all troop members and records advancement in troop records and on the troop advancement chart.” After that, I ascended into becoming a Patrol Leader and then acting as a Senior Patrol Leader, the highest youth leader of the troop, handling all patrols’ affairs and coordinating with the Scoutmaster for advice and consent.
Intro: In Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, hierarchy is shown plainly in many forms throughout the text. If families are compared it's a clear staircase with the Cunningham family at the bottom and the Finches at the top, for example. The hierarchies are so defined that Scout, at her young age, can realize and acknowledge some of them. Body 1: First there is a family and gender hierarchy between the Finch family.
I have been able to exhibit my leadership skills through the Boy Scouts of America. I first joined Boy Scouts when I was only in 7th grade. I had no idea what the organization did or what they were known for. Nevertheless, I quickly realized how important Boy Scouts was to its community and also to my
Eyden I. once said in a book called Woman’s Book: Only For Men “Morals are like social classes there are poor and rich people.” There are always complications between the rich and the poor people in nearly all topics. Just like the quote stated, the rich and poor are always found in morals as well as social class, social hierarchy, in public, and in the government. Finally, this topic is really prominent in literature. Being provided books to read in my HWOC class, I come to a conclusion to synthesize how social hierarchy is shown through the words of the authors of To Kill a Mockingbird, A Raisin in the Sun, and American Denial and reveal the social hierarchy between different races to demonstrate the struggle and eventually blockage non-whites
One of my volunteer opportunities includes raking leaves for a senior citizen in my town. Leadership is something that can always be viewed as an opportunity. One of the clubs that I am a part of is called Junior Warriors Club and recently there was an event called the 8th Grade Nipmuc Showcase where eighth graders get a sense of the high school. I decided this would be an excellent leadership opportunity. I met with so many incoming freshmen next year.
Scout had an experience on her first day of first grade. Scout had three problems, she was not able to play with Jem at school, her knowing how to read, and her relationship with Miss Caroline. Scout stated, “I was to stick with the first grade and he would stick with the fifth. In short, I was to leave him alone” (20-21). The audience can see that Scout was mad and annoyed by this.
While the plaintiff may consider my client to be a neglectful and absent parent, my client would not be considered a neglectful parent under State law. Title 26, Chapter 14, Section 1 of the Alabama State Law describes neglect as the negligent treatment or maltreatment of a child, including the failure to provide adequate food, medical treatment, supervision, clothing, or shelter. In comparison to the Ewell children who are left to fend for themselves day in and day out, Scout and Jem Finch live a very comfortable life thanks to their father. Atticus provides his children with three meals a day, a roof over their heads, and clothing, among other necessities. In addition, with the family cook, Calpurnia, often keeping a close eye on the children,
Role models are the epitome of what one strives to be, learn from, or simply to be. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee distinguishes Calpurnia, Miss Maudie, and Atticus as role models for Scout to help guide and portray her coming of age in order to further prove the overall themes of the novel such as coming of age and prejudice. Scout Finch’s knowledge of Maycomb County and the things surrounding her is minimal until she receives guidance from her family, friends, and neighbors. Also, along with these two main themes Scout’s character is changed because of her role models who assist her throughout the novel. The role models of Calpurnia, Miss Maudie, and Atticus teach her lessons on her education, racism, and respect.
In a world like today’s, finding a positive role model to emulate can be very difficult. As the world becomes more connected, children have access to so much more information. They are able to keep up on the latest on all sorts of things, including celebrities. It is becoming more common for children to look up to celebrities rather than people in their own communities. Boys who dream of becoming a professional basketball player probably look up Lebron James or Kobe Bryant and girls who want to grow up to be a famous actress probably keep up to date with Angelina Jolie and all her upcoming movies.
I am a “leader” many ways in and out of school. In school I am in Environmental, Interact, Journalism, Elementary Connections, and Student Council clubs. I also hold offices in three of these clubs. I am Vice President of Student Council and Secretary in both Journalism and Environmental clubs. I am also involved with Youth Leadership; we go on monthly field trips around the county to learn about leadership roles in the community.
TITLE “Sometimes I think I’m a total failure as a parent, but I’m all they’ve got. Before Jem looks at anyone else he looks at me, and I’ve tried to live so I can look squarely back at him…” Atticus is the teacher figure for his children, Jem and Scout in To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
