The Struggle of the Women’s Arguments
“Lean In: What Would You Do If You Weren’t Afraid?” by Sheryl Sandberg and Dig Deep: Beyond Lean In” by Bell Hooks are both articles were about women and their roles. Bell Hooks’ article was a response to Sheryl Sandberg’s. In Sandberg’s article she talks about her families past, and what she went through growing up. Hooks responds to Sandberg by talking about the more controversial things that were not brought up in Sandberg’s.
The article “Lean In: What Would You Do If You Weren’t Afraid?” is about a young women named Sheryl Sandberg. In the beginning of the article she goes into the past, and talks about her grandmother. She portrays her grandmother as a determined woman who could do anything that she set her mind to. Her grandmother knew and understood the limitations of being a woman in her time period, but she did what she could to push those limits. The infamous grandmother even saved her husband’s business from going under, and after retiring from her job had to have three people be hired to do the job that she once did on a daily bases.

She makes remarks about how Sandberg only speaks on the behalf of white women, and she only tells of things that are not controversial. Hooks talks about how Sandberg missed all of the big situations such as finances, relationships, and the work force.
I could understand how one could think that all Sandberg’s comments could only be on the behalf of white women, but she never comes out and says that. Women of a different ethnicity could very well have gone through the same things such as being pushed into marriage, struggling between business and family life, and fear of not succeeding. I feel that Bell Hooks was only assuming, so that she could add that spark and argument into her
