Lebron James is a professional basketball player that went from childhood poverty to being one of the most well known people in the world. He went through a rough stretch as a child. Then became the first pick in the 2003 NBA draft (Nagelhout 29). Now he is known as a basketball legend for his accomplishments. To truly understand Lebron James, one must understand his early, middle and late life. To truly understand Lebron James one must understand his early life. James was born on December 30, 1984 in Akron, Ohio (Nagelhout 9). Lebron’s biological father has never been a part of his life. Lebron attended St. Vincent's St. Mary high school (Nagelhout 15). After Lebron’s junior year, he received the 2001-2002 Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year Award. And he also was named to the all-USA first team in both the USA Today and People magazines (Nagelhout 18). Lebron’s picture was also featured on the Sports Illustrated magazine on February 8, 2002 (Nagelhout 18). The Cleveland Cavaliers coach, John Lucas, invited Lebron to practice in the summer of 2002. As a result John was suspended for several games and fined 150k for having a junior in high school practice with the NBA team (Nagelhout 19). In 2003, Lebron James was the first pick in the NBA draft to the Cleveland Cavaliers (Nagelhout 29). His first season in 2004, he won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award (Nagelhout 30). He was only 19 years old at this time, but he was selected onto the USA Olympic Basketball team (Nagelhout 31). In Lebron’s third season in the NBA he finally made it to the playoffs. James and the Cavs had a record of 50-32 (Nagelhout 33). In June of 2006 Lebron was awarded with the Community Assist Award (Nagelhout 35). In 2007, in the Cavs first NBA Finals appearance ever, they were swept by the San Antonio Spurs (Nagelhout 36). But the positive about this is, later the next year, on March 21, 2008, James became the Cavs all-time leading scorer (Nagelhout 36). In the 2009-2010 season, Lebron won the MVP award and averaged 30 points per game (Nagelhout 37). Lebron was upset that he could not win a NBA Finals series. So on July 7, 2010, he left the cavs and joined the Miami Heat (Nagelhout 41). His first season on the heat, he made $14.5 million (Nagelhout 47). That same year, Lebron made it to his 3rd Nba finals series, but lost to the Dallas Mavericks (Nagelhout 56). In the 2011-2012 season Lebron won his first Nba finals championship and he also won MVP and he won gold in the Summer Olympics (Nagelhout 60).
