In the article "Don’t blame the eater" written by Zinczenko, he argues that fast food is the main reason why so many teenagers are suffering from obesity in United States. He explains that many companies will use advertisements to deceive customers. For example, a company’s website offers a chicken salad with less than four hundred calories per serving; however, they don’t label everything that the salad has In the first label. They will use separate labels in the products that the salad has on it, so the costumer gets confused and thinks that he is actually eating a four hundred calories salad that is "healthy". However, he is actually eating a seven or more hundred calories meal.
People in Southern Sudan have dirty water, wild animals, the many wars and a lot more hardships they need to face. In the book “A long walk to water” by: Linda Sue Park, is a book that takes place in Southern Sudan and features all the hardships Salva and Nya had to face while living there such as wild animals, wars, fights through tribes, lack of water and food. Hardships Salva faced in Southern Sudan are lack of water/ food, the wild animals, and the fighting/ war. One of the hardships Salva had to face in Southern Sudan is lack of water and food. In chapters 3-4 Salva had gotten water from a woman older than Salva’s mother that he had met after he was left alone, the woman gave Salva a gourd of water and a bag of raw peanuts.

In the book A Long Walk To Water written by Linda Sue Park, the main characters Salva and Nya struggle to survive. However, Salva and Nya both show hope as they carry on through Sudan's water crises, food shortages, and medical emergencies. Sudan has had many wars over the last few decades, resulting in around two million people to be displaced from their families.
In Li-Young Lee’s poem, Eating Alone, Lee uses many literary techniques such as imagery and tone to develop the speaker’s grief towards his father’s death. The poem is about a son who is mourning the loss of his father in which the fall brings back the memories of his father. When first reading this poem, it is very confusing and does not make much sense. Once the poem is analyzed, the reader can determine the distinction between life and death in the poem, where the speaker is missing the presence of their father. Imagery is a big factor in the poem for the speaker to communicate his themes of memory and loneliness.
In enduring these complex emotions, this section was the most remarkable part. One of the first apparent emotions the boy experiences with the death of his father is loneliness to make this section memorable. The boy expresses this sentiment when he stays with his father described as, “When he came back he knelt beside his father and held his cold hand and said his name over and over again,” (McCarthy 281). The definition of loneliness is, “sadness because one has no friends or company.”

In “The Comeback” by E. L. Shen, Maxine Chen, a twelve year old Chinese girl, deals with the battle of reality. Maxine has a passion for ice skating, which she continues to fight to pursue in her competitions. But she also has to learn how to balance her passion with her academics. Maxine’s issue with balancing work with her desire, while figuring out how to accept her Chinese heritage, relates to my life as an Asian American woman. Throughout the book, Maxine faces racist comments from her classmate.
This quarter I read This is the Story of you by Beth Kaphart, from beginning to end this book was very interesting and intriguing. I found myself sitting down to read and then not being able to stop. I would definitely recommend this book for any high school student to read. This story is about a little town called Haven.
Everybody will die eventually, and every one of your heartbeats brings you closer to death. This is Judd Mulvaney’s recurring thought and the theme of the excerpt from the novel, We Were the Mulvaneys by Joyce Carol Oates. Set in the Mulvaneys’ driveway overlooking the brook, the excerpt gives an insight of the thoughts of Judd Mulvaney. Judd is hypnotized by the water and has an epiphany that makes him realize something terrible. In order to characterize Judd, Oates uses different literary techniques throughout the passage.

The poem is an ode that is written to describe a strong emotion about something. In this case, the emotion of eating pork. Young writes the poem to describe his love and enjoyment of eating pork, but also addresses the sins this food has when partaken. The tone of the poem is contentment; eating the pork makes him happy and satisfied.
Li-Young Lee’s poem “Eating Alone” expresses a son’s loneliness and love for his father that has passed away. He continuously connects the father to all that the speaker does whether it is lifeful or not. Lee does so in a way through imagery, tone, and irony. Li-Young Lee uses imagery in “Eating Alone” through life and death.
Jiro Dreams of Sushi is a documentary centered on a man who spent nearly seventy-five years of his life perfecting and improving his sushi making skills. David Gelb, the director of this film, had initially intended the documentary to be about a variety of sushi shops. However, after hearing about and visiting Jiro’s out of the ordinary sushi restaurant, he decided that he would make his documentary about Jiro. Gelb has successfully portrayed Jiro and his sushi from many different perspectives by voicing the thoughts and reactions of Jiro’s workers, customers, associates, and, a food critic. Although the film is mainly about Jiro and his passion for sushi, it also takes note of his two sons that follow in his footsteps as well as the difficulties
