When I first heard that I needed to complete a legacy project I was very concerned about what I could possibly do that would help my site. I felt that Playhouse already had everything that I could possibly offer and that anything I offered would not be significant. After addressing my concerns with the lead teacher of the classroom I am interning in, we decided on a legacy project. In the classroom, Laura has shelves where the wooden blocks are stored. The shelves have cutouts that match the blocks in order for the children to quickly identify the shapes and store the blocks properly. Kristen mentioned how she brought in her violin to the classroom and played the violin. After telling Kristen about my passion of photography, I decided to create a new lesson for the classroom. In the classroom, there is a fake camera that the children play with and use to pretend to take pictures. Throughout high school and into college, I have taken photography courses. Unfortunately it has been difficult for me to continue to enjoy photography because I have not had the time to go out and explore different places to shoot photographs. Seeing that some of the children in the classroom were interested in photography, I decided to bring in my instant film camera. This was a perfect way for me to share something to the classroom that I am passionate about. During circle time, I taught the children in the classroom how the Polaroid camera works and explained to them the process of taking photographs with the camera. Using instant film is unique because unlike film photography, it does not need to be processed with chemicals or in a darkroom; the film develops right before your eyes. Using this kind of film allowed the children to watch each photograph develop. I explained to the children that over time photography has changed and the materials and formats we use have changed. After I told the children about the camera, we used the “talking stick”
