Factors such as poverty, diverse forms of persecution, and unemployment of many foreign lands motivating some groups to seek entry into the U.S. Many undocumented immigrants fled to the U.S. legally with a temporary visa, and failed to leave. Currently, our country is not receiving any benefit from immigration.
As far of the pro-immigrations argue that the United States was founded by immigrants and that immigration and freedom is what makes the United States a great nation. In addition, immigrants have a huge impact in our economy, like Bernie Sanders stated at the NALEO conference ‘’ It is no great secret that across the United States undocumented workers perform a critical role in our economy.’’ (latintimes.com). Another argument that pro-immigrant have is that people move to this country seeking the American dream, to be able to provide better life and future for their family. In the other hand, the anti-immigrants believe that illegal immigrants hurt our country.
According to a study released last year by the Pew Hispanic Center, as of 2008, 11.9 million illegal immigrants lived in the United States, more than triple the 3.5 million who lived in the country in 1990 (Izumi). Immigration throughout the years has become a major issue in the U.S because of too many immigrants entering the country year after year. The U.S has come to a point whether they should deport the immigrants back to their country. Believe it or not, these immigrants are a big contribution to the U.S. If it wasn’t for them, the U.S economy wouldn’t be where it stands now.
Illegal immigrants are a major part of the US labor force and have been an important source of low-skilled labor supply to the US economy for many decades. The Pew Hispanic Center estimates that the number of unauthorized immigrants in the US labor force was 8.3 million in 2008, up from 6.3 million in 2003 but down slightly from the 2007 peak of 8.5 million. And there are currently 11.9 million unauthorized immigrants living in the United States, with an average of 500,000 new entrants arriving annually over the last decade. Don 't get me wrong, it is bad but it 's not done with the intention of hurting someone else but to try and change their future.
Despite the multiple attempts at creating a well-rounded immigration reform the United States has failed to achieve the full capacity of the reform. The United States first failure at the reform was in 1986 when congress passed the “Immigration Reform and Control Act”. The purpose of this legislation was to amend, revise, and re-assess the status of unauthorized immigrants set forth in the Immigration and Nationality Act. The content of this bill is overwhelming and is divided into many sections such as control of unauthorized immigration, legalization and reform of legal immigration.
There has been a frightening increase in illegal immigration in the U.S. The amount of illegal immigrants, in America, is a major concern to our citizens and government. There are many cons of immigration and some pros of it. At this point, they just make it so easy for immigrants to get in whether they are legal or illegal. I would say that most of the people are legal but there are also some illegal ones for sure. One of the main cons of immigration can be the threat they have with terrorism. Immigration, it has been the defining characteristic of many countries as it helped to create a diversified environment. Throughout history persons have decided to relocate for a variety of reasons which has undoubtedly molded our now reality. There are quite a number of pull and push factors that contribute to people movement. According to James M. Rubenstein (2014) “Pull factors induces people to move out of their present location whereas a pull factor induces persons to move into a new location.” When these factors are taken into consideration we are able to dwell specifically on the reasons persons choose to make this lifetime decision.
