The United States attracts many immigrants in the world. Legal and illegal immigration has been a political issue facing our country for many years. To clarify legal immigration policy of the U.S., the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs informs “Foreign citizens who want to live permanently in the United States must first obtain an immigrant visa. This is the first step to becoming a lawful permanent resident” (U.S. Department of State, n.d.).
