Do people view lenses through the stories that are read or through what’s presented to them? The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin is a story full of lenses which further presents the question of how they are most accurately portrayed. The tale is of a housewife in a traditional Victorian marriage. She soon learns of her husband being killed in an accident, or she thought so. As time progresses, a multitude of opportunities are presented. Portrayed in this story is the feminist ideology, as it is the prominent driving factor of the story. In her writing, she uses this to show the many opportunities that women can actually obtain, and that they shouldn’t just give up because of social ideologies. Body and soul free!’ she kept whispering,” Chopin(2) which shows that without her husband she could do anything she wanted free of restraint. The impact creates a feeling of self worth and empowerment among women in order to make these women that read it feel less need for dependence on men. Continuing, it also shows what a woman is truly worth in society. “There would be no one to live for her during those coming years; she would live for herself,”Chopin(3) This line from the story extends the importance of a woman's independence from others. The impact is that women will feel the power and liberty to live their own lives for themselves, free of control. There is a call to action with these lenses in order to get women to take back their slice of society. “There would be no powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence with which men and women believe they have a right to impose a private will upon a fellow-creature,” Chopin(3). This brings to light that women don’t have to listen to someone just because they impose their free will on them. The impact of this is for women to be strong willed and continue to prove they are just as capable as anyone
