Many people don't have the experience of going to war and being in the front, but if they did, they probably came back different than they were when they left. They probably realized things they hadn't before. War and Peace is about five different families that live in Europe in 1805. They are in troubled times and the war is not helping them. This source shows how the families battle their way through this tough time. Andrew has a different look on life because he was injured and wanted to come home to his family, so he endeavors to save a Russian standard, but Andrew also has a different look at his family because he is not happy with his marriage to his wife. He is put in the front with a friend, Pierre. Andrew is wounded at the Battle of Austerlitz, and though he survives, he is long presumed dead. Pierre survived and went back home to see his family. We know Andrew is wounded at war and survives because later in the book it says he later returned to the military service.“There is no greatness where there is not simplicity, goodness, and truth”.(Leo Tolstoy) Another source says," Tolstoy's War and Peace was the only book Grossman himself read during the war." This quote was from the source. It means that someone was actually in the war and found War and Peace to be helpful during the hard times in the war. This source helps you get a better grasp on what Tolstoy was trying to prove in his book. These sources help the reader get a better development of the story because now the reader knows that Andrew and Pierre actually went to war even though Andrew was the son of a rich count. We also know Andrew was wounded in the war and was thought to be dead, but Pierre did make it back home. Then the reader soon realizes that Andrew is still alive and makes it back home. The reader could presume that Andrew has a different look on life because he went to war and everyone thinks he is dead and he is
