To start off, Leonardo da Vinci’s, “The Last Supper” contains elements of art that make the piece a magnificent artwork. The artist, da Vinci, used lines to portray the room in which Jesus Christ and the apostles are in by shaping out the walls, windows, doors, and even the table in which they are sitting. Implied and lines of sight are also present in this painting since Thomas is seen pointing upwards, with a stern look on his face, representing his questioning of Judas’ betrayal. The way the other disciples are extending their hands and arms out in Jesus’s direction demonstrates their astonishment after finding out one would be committing treason. The lines used are both thick and thin since the doors and windows have a thick frame, but the other components are finely painted; they create a shadow through these, as well as under the tablecloth. Judas uses these shadows to hide under in order to be avoided and not be blamed for his deception which is portrayed in the bag of coins he is seen holding. In this painting, there are no contour lines which imply time, but the ones used show movement since the men seem to be anxiously fidgeting in their seats after being altered with devastating news. This has led to me seeing many images of saints, angels, and of Jesus himself very often. In fact, my family has a big image of the Last Supper in our kitchen in our house and a small ornament that shows the same. I have always known the meaning of the supper and how it was Jesus’s way of saying goodbye to his apostles but that He would be mankind’s Savior, but I never knew exactly what were the components of the piece. The curiosity and hunger of learning more of something that I appreciate a lot is the major factor of my choosing and I have acquired knowledge that has left a grand
