The central idea of the text is that the author wants everyone to live life to its fullest. He does this by using figurative language. He believes that civilization has been corrupted. We are so focused on society’s idea of living that we are forgetting “the essential facts of life” (line 1). The author wants to absorb all the good in life. In this quote, “ I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life” he compares marrow, as in bone marrow, to the vital parts of life. Another example of figurative language is in this quote, “ Let us spend one day as deliberately as nature,” (line 13).
