What was the occasion for the letter to the Hebrews?
The epistle of Hebrews was written to encourage the young generation of Jews who because of persecution were tempted to return to Judaism. The main point of this book is to encourage the believers to continue in the faith and to know that Jesus was indeed the Messiah. The main thread of this book is to show that Jesus is above or better than anything that we as believers face.
Do the warning passages of Hebrews seem to have any explicit connection with the occasion for the book? Explain your answer.

How does the theme of Hebrews (persevering faith) contrast with Paul’s theme of righteousness by grace through faith apart from the works of man in the following passages: Romans 5:17-21; Galatians 2:21; Ephesians 2:8-9?
I did not see it as a contrast but as parallel with what Paul spoke about. James 2:20 (KJV) says “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?” The Hebrew writers speaks of preserving faith which works hand in hand with the grace of God, which Paul makes reference in the three passages of scripture. Romans 5:17-21 deals with how through grace the believer is made right with God, because of the death of Jesus Christ. Galatians 2:21 makes comparison between the law and grace. For Paul says if the law could have kept us then there would have been no need for Jesus to die for us. Ephesians 2:8-9 speaks to the fact that we are saved by the grace of God and not of any works we could ever do. Grace and faith works together in this Christian
