Application for scholarship 17Th October 2014 Dear Ms. Kaye, The value of Education is something I have understood since a very young age as the majority of my family have not had the opportunity to go into further education let alone university. This left me with a passion to succeed and that is exactly what the Sir Charles Dunstone Scholarship will allow me to do. I have always lived by a famous quote from Albert Schweitzer as he says “The greatest discovery of any generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.” Which signifies to me just how powerful we can be as an individual and motivates me day in and day out to always try my hardest. These vary from giving up my time in order to welcome potential students to the academy on open evenings as well as open days often addressing concerns and answering questions that the parents rightly had about what goes on within a normal academic day. To spending days off timetable in order to teach year five and six primary school children the basics of radio. Such as ensuring that levels are correct, how to edit a song for explicit content, script writing and then finally how to piece everything together to produce a professional podcast suitable for airing. My knowledge of radio had come from my voluntary work at Preston FM a radio station run completely by volunteers for the benefit of the community. I have worked with the organisation for over 5 years now producing and presenting my own show which has built my confidence and English skills further which is why I feel strongly about the benefits the academy station has to our students. The academy has on numerous occasions recognised my contribution not only by giving the most precious gift of all. A simple Thank You. But by also naming me on the "Jean Tate Award for Service to the Community Lower School" and the "Award for Service to The Academy" I have also been recognised for my enthusiasm of learning as I have obtained a further three trophies for Attainment within my subjects as I have on various occasions exceed the target grades that I
