Letting Ana Go is an anonymous nonfiction diary of a 16-year-old girl suffering with anorexia nervosa. Throughout the diary, she writes about events that have occurred, her weight, goals, and feelings. On May 18 Ana starts her food diary with a goal of consuming 2,500 to 2,800 calories on the days she runs and 2,000 to 2,500 calories on the days she doesn’t. Ana’s calorie intake goes like planned until she goes on vacation for a week to Lake Powell with her best friend Jill and boyfriend Jack’s family with Rob. On June 17, the second day of vacation, Jill persuades Ana to reduce her calories to 1,200 per day with her.

Later that day at 5:29 p.m. Ana died of anorexia nervosa. She started the diary with a weight of 133 pounds and ended it with a weight of 110.5 pounds.
If I could have chosen a different ending to this book I would have made it possible for Ana to survive. She would have gone to a treatment center for longer and gotten better. She also would still be together with Jack. She would have kept running but would never over exercise. She would feel confident about her body without being underweight. She would also spend time with her dad and his girlfriend Annette more. Ana and Vanessa would make up and continue to be friends with Rob, Jack, Jill, and Geoff.
Jill would also have gotten better. She would continue to do ballet but would not starve herself just to get the lead role. Jill and Ana would never restrict calories, over exercise, or not eat again. Lastly, Susan, Jack and Jill’s mom, wouldn’t pressure Jill into restricting calories anymore. She would love her daughter for the way she
