Lewis and Clark’s expedition was a bit different from Pike’s. While Lewis and Clark were exploring the northern part of the Louisiana Purchase, Pike on the other hand was exploring the southern parts. Throughout Lewis and Clark’s expedition they were able to make a connection with the native tribes. By becoming friends with the Natives this showed Lewis and Clark the land that the US would start moving into. During their expedition they cataloged 108 botanical and zoological specimens, 68 mineral specimens, as well as Clark’s map of the US.
President Thomas Jefferson in 1804 elected as president. One day, he discovers that the French were selling the Louisiana Territory to Spain, he takes advantage of this and buys it instead, thus making the Louisiana Purchase to extend the U.S. two times its original size and to gain control of New Orleans Mississippi River. After the purchase, the Lewis & Clark Expedition was formed to discover more about the Louisiana Territory in which the Native Americans had dwelled. Lewis & Clark were respectful to the Native Americans they encountered during their expedition because they had to prevent future quarrels. Lewis and Clark were mostly friendly to the Native Americans due to a request from Thomas Jefferson himself to be kind to them.
Lewis and Clark traveled to the northern parts of the area. They met with different native tribes the Mandan tribe, Hirata, Teton Sioux, and Oto. They met French trappers, they also met a French trapper whose wife named Sacagawea, was of the Shoshone tribe. She was great with speaking to different tribes. During their journey, they wrote in a journal.

He gained a better knowledge of the United states. It will talk about everything he went through and everything he seen on his exploration. When Lewis and clark started their exploration conditions were terrible because they were always outside and were having to do everything on their own. Before Lewis and clark there were plans to explore the west, there would of been a first explorer named Michaax but they found out he was a secret agent for the French.
Chapter 21 was about any big things, including the westward movement of Americans, the exploitations of Lewis and Clark, the Napoleonic War, and the War of 1812. By 1825, 25% of Americans took the risk of moving West. There was a lot of land, but they had a big chance of being attacked by Natives. There was also the Napoleonic Wars which ruined American trade and they couldn't stay neutral. We decided to stop trading with Britain and France which destroyed our economy.
To many people it is a strong belief the Lewis and Clark expedition was a threat against the american indians and wildlife and caused the start of their removal, but I believe that what happened to the american indians had to happen in order to expand our country. The Lewis and Clark expedition explored the Louisiana purchase bought from the French in 1803 after the French failed their dream of a new empire. Current president Thomas Jefferson was asked by the French to buy a considerable amount of land for a very cheap price when the french had entered a rough patch of financial issues. The land was bought by Thomas Jefferson who had no idea what or really even who was living there besides the american indians. Thomas Jefferson decided to send explorers
Perhaps the biggest challenge of writing this book: finding the mistakes made by the Corps of Discovery. The expedition of Lewis, Clark, and the rest of the Corps of Discovery is one of the most revered stories of American history. Nonetheless, everyone is prone to mistakes, even Lewis and Clark. A fatal mistake, one which could’ve ended in the Corps of Discovery being lost to history if they had been stuck just a bit longer, was the choice to venture through Bitterroot Mountains.
Manifest Destiny is the belief created by John O'Sullivan in 1845. This means the United States was meant to expand from coast to coast. There were many factors and events that supported this belief and made it happen. These include the Louisiana purchase on April 30th, 1803. The Louisiana purchase helped the united states double its size by purchasing current day Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and part of Colorado, South Dakota, Minnesota, Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan.
Goals: On June 20th, 1803 Thomas Jefferson instructs Clark and Lewis on an expedition, to examine the Louisiana Purchase and establish trade threw Natives, explorer the Missouri river and learn about the natives. President Thomas Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase from the French people in 1803 in doing so he needed the land to be examined. The purchase given to him of this large mass of land west of the Mississippi River is one of the most important events in history. Thomas Jefferson’s next plan after making this massive purchase was to attempt another expedition to explore the territory.
The Lewis and Clark expedition was a turning point in American history. It radically expanded our current knowledge of what used to be the Louisiana Territory. When thinking of this expedition, most forget that many people accompanied Lewis and Clark. Each member had important jobs and roles that may have drastically increased the aqusition of knowledge. There were even cases of incredulous misbehavior with appropriate punishments, and of course, along the way deaths occurred.
Imagine a world where Natives were hostile towards everyone. If Lewis and Clark treated the Indians unfairly this would undoubtedly be the case. Luckily, during the expedition Lewis and Clark and the rest of The Corps of Discovery treated the Natives very fairly. Lewis and Clark treated the natives fairly because, they gave them gifts, they spoke respectfully, and were not violent. To begin with, they gave them gifts.

The Expedition happened because of a deal with France giving America 828,000 feet of Western land for 15 million dollars, called the Louisiana Purchase.
There are far far better things ahead than anything we leave behind. In 1802 I was told to set off on a journey west. To find the Northwest Passage. You will now hear my encounters and just imagine my journey. Now Luxuriant Bear grass was just one of the plants I discovered on my journey.
President Thomas Jefferson commissioned the Corps of Discovery to have the Lewis and Clark expedition find a waterway that could connect the United States for transportation because he had aspirations to expand to the Pacific and Northwest making the expedition important to his agenda for the United States. (The Corp of Discovery, 2016). Another reason for the important expedition was to create a relationship with the American Indians, and the American fur trade, while learning the North American topography and geography of the land which was also important to the exploration (Corps of Discover, 2016). My thoughts on this week show is that I believe that Lewis and Clark would not have been able to complete their journey with the help of the native people that they encounter while on the journey. To my knowledge, Indian tribes such as the Mandans help provide supplies and sheltering during the winter. The Nez Perce tribe also helped the men buy supplying food. I would have to disagree with “Thomas Jefferson” that was on this week show because he feels that Sacagawea did not make much of a contribution to the journey. But Sacagawea helped obtain horses for the men and translated for them during the expedition.
