Alveda King once said “Abortion is not health care. A woman has a right to her body, but that is not her body. What about the baby?” Human life begins at conception, not birth. According to the dictionary life is defined by “an organismic state characterized by capacity for metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli, and reproduction.” (“Life”) A fetus goes through the chemical processes to undergo metabolism throughout gestation, and grows in the same way. A fetus is also able to react to sounds and touch while inside the womb. In addition, the bible teaches us that life is a gift, and every child should be treated as one. Many people believe that because a baby cannot survive without its mother, it has no rights or the privilege to live. Life has been proven to begin at conception through science, the bible, morals, and fetal development.
Throughout gestational development, multiple benchmarks are met that show life begins at conception. In the first month of pregnancy a baby’s internal organs, circulatory system and spinal cord start to form. There are so many developmental benchmarks that are met while inside the womb. These contain things such as the first heartbeat, development of the spinal cord,organs, bones, and much more. Secondly, the bible says “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jer. 29.11). This verse declares that God has a plan for each child’s life, he knows what each person will do and accomplish.
