Life changing experiences have a good or a bad effect on peoples lives and are often quite challenging. This idea was explored in the fiction stories Hatchet by Gary Paulson, Dragon Wings by Lawrence yep, and Eleven by Sandra Cisneros. Brian from Hatchet, Moon shadow from Dragon Wings, and Rachel from Eleven all faced life changing experiences that have a big effect on their lives. Brian faced loneliness and hunger when he was stranded in the middle of the forest. Many things made Brian lonely including the fact that he had to spend many nights alone and hoped “they would probably come today.” Readers can see that Brian hoped he would be rescued but his loneliness made him question if and when someone would come for him breaking down what little hope he had left. I know from my own experiences that when you have a lot of questions and no one will answer them you get curious because you have all these possibilities in your head and you want to know which ones are true. I also know that the longer you're curious the more you want to know and cant, which can lead to looking after you jump if you know what I mean. Another example is that the author mentions that moon shadow and his mom wanted to see his dad subtly in the second and third sentences of the fourth paragraph “I had of course never seen my father. And we could not go to live with him for two reasons. Since the author worded the third sentence with could not instead of would not gives a hint that moon shadow and his mom did want to see his father but they can’t, which creates the feeling of longing.
