Jorge Negrete was the person to make this song famous although in today 's time people might know it more because of Vicente Fernandez. This song always reminds my parents of when they left home leaving family, friends, and the community they once knew. They had to start there life differently but carried this music with them wherever they go.

She did not always stick to her Mexican culture and Mexican music though. This is the story and background of Selena Quintanilla-Perez.
Tejano music which also is known as Tex-Mex it refers to the style of Mexican-American music, which it is born in the South Texas region from a Chicano community that evolve from different styles of music on the late 19th century. These lead to the early years where in the south regions this music evolve from a group of farmer people community that start creating corridos which born from an European music style such as waltz, polkas and ballads. This music adapts the stylishness of narrative nonfiction music by the year of the 1803, we find he introduction of verses in the polkas corridor music. In other words from that time the music start evolving into other genres, such as rock and roll, pop, rancheras, Mexican cumbias, conjunto and tejano music. In the late 20th century we can find many artists that make this genre so popular on the Southern Texas region, tejano music gave birth to a great artists such as La mafia, Emilio Navaira, Gary Hobbs, Jennifer Peña, Jay Perez, La Sombra, and finally Selena Quintanilla.
Selena also became the first Hispanic singer to have an album sung mostly in Spanish to reach number one. She also became the first female to place five albums at the same time on the Billboard 200 chart. The only other artists to have done this were Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Garth Brooks. Billboard wrote that the release of Dreaming of You was "a historic day in Latin music history". The album helped Selena to become the second-fastest selling female artist that year, behind Janet Jackson.

On top of her career, she had respect, and was admired as a great role model by Mexican Americans. The “Queen of Tejano” music, her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the late 20th century. Billboard magazine named her the “Top Latin Artist of the 90s” and then “Best Selling Latin Artist of the decade”. Selena ranks among the most influential Latin artists of all time and is credited for catapulting a music genre into the mainstream market.
