Did you know the Department of Justice reports, about 800,000 persons are reported missing every year, making it above 2,000 missing persons a day? In this novel the main character, Lily is taken from a small town called Long Thorpe. She is locked in a cellar for six months and meets three new girls. I am able to reflect the title of this novel to the book as a whole.

First, when I think of the word cellar I imagine a dark-spooky-cement walled room. The cellar looked like a normal house and had Lily thinking the least but in all reality it was a trap. Colin was a strong, powerful man and took over the girls. When Lily first arrived she heard many stories about girls trying to escape but never could because Collin caught each one of them. Collin renamed each girl after a flower so they felt more like family. Rose, Poppy, and Violet are the three girls Lily meets when she first arrives the cellar. After many years of being locked in a cellar the girls were used to the way he had been treating them. The girls didn’t accept that he was beating them but they didn’t have another option. The girls treated each other like sisters and would do anything for one another. “You won’t. It gets…bearable I hate it too, Lily. You just need to find something to focus on while its happening”(Preston 185). Rose tried talking down Lily after she got her round with Collin. Lily becomes emotionally unstable as months go by. Her family doesn’t let a day go by without trying to find her. Louis, Lily’s boyfriend, ends up helping the police find them six months later in the cellar.
