Literacy Narrative
The journey of Reading and Writing They say skill is an ability, acquired through strong will. I never enjoyed reading books; especially the gigantic ones, since I feared I would get bored or that I would never be able to finish them. But, at the time, I was completely unaware that this habit of mine would not last long. When I was young, I loved to read comics and many other humorous works, that would put a smile to my face. While comics amused me, non-fiction texts and large novels invited a sense of dullness. Although it was a moment of great delight for us, lack of knowledge due to disinterest in reading remained a concern throughout the competition. During the final round, I realized that we were far from winning this competition due to our incompetence in History. Unable to cope with the level of questions, we lost this competition by a margin of just four points. It was a nail-biting test, which wrapped our hopes of winning the title. Had I loved reading texts, we would have won this prestigious competition for our school. Knowing it wasn’t our best shot; we realized the value of reading and writing in an individual’s life. This event instigated me to pursue reading for gaining proficiency in every aspect of life. Till date, I believe that this exam of mine was the turning point of my life. It changed me from a boy who hated texts to a teenager, who now knows the importance of reading and loves reading non-fiction texts. After three years of dedication, this habit helped me achieve an astounding score on the English section of my SAT. Though I stopped reading comics, their sweet memories will always remain fresh in my mind. A great writer once said, “There is no use trying to rush fate because the best things in life are worth the wait.” This quote resembles my 15-year journey, influenced by
