In both "Snow Globe" by Timothy Brewer and "The Interlopers" by Saki, the authors use specific literary devices to create a tone of suspenseful irony throughout their stories. One such device used by both authors is foreshadowing. In "Snow Globe," Brewer uses foreshadowing when he writes, "I knew that something bad was going to happen; I just didn't know what or when. " This foreshadowing creates a sense of suspense for the reader as they anticipate the impending doom that the narrator senses.

In the book Baseball Great, the author, Tim Green told the story from the main characters point of view. That helped build suspense because it showed what was going on inside his mind with all the adversity going on with his baseball team and with his dad losing his job and how he overcomes it. Throughout the short story “Snow” by Julia Alvarez, the literary devices of imagery and diction contribute to the overall theme that immigrating into a new environment can be a fearful experience. In paragraph three, Yolanda explains that while at her new school, they would perform air raid drills, leaving her imagination to picture the worst-case scenarios she learned about. We see this when she says that she would, “imagine our hair falling out, the bones in our arms going soft.” This shows that procedures and lessons Yolanda never had to learn or do before immigrating to the U.S. have a significant impact on the way she views everyday life, from living in an innocent world to one that is out to hurt her.
In the book Brian 's winter the main character is Brian from the book Hatchet. Brian 's winter is a spin of book telling the story of him if he wasn 't rescued at the end of Hatchet and had to last the winter in the woods. This book was made to the people wondering what would 've happen to brian if he wasn 't rescued. Brian 's Winter shows how tough he has to be able to survive and make it through the winter.
Did you know that authors use many different literary devices to tell a story? A literary device is a technique writers use to make their stories unique and interesting. Literary devices like simile, metaphor, suspense, personification, allusion, irony, foreshadowing, and imagery are used in lots of stories. In the short story ¨The Most Dangerous Game”, Richard Connell uses literary devices such as suspense and simile to help the reader gain a clear understanding of the story. In this essay, I will provide two examples of literary devices used throughout Richard Connell’s short story.
In the short story “What happened during the Ice Storm?” showed a theme of maturation using literary elements, specifically irony, symbolism, and the application of onomatopoeias were used to support the theme of maturation. The literary element irony is mostly used in the short story “What happened during the Ice Storm?” originally the boys wanted to hurt the pheasants like the author says, “They stood over the pheasants, turning their own heads, looking at each other, each expecting the other to do something. To pounce on a pheasant, or to yell Bang!” This quote is important because it showed the boys original intent; which was to hurt or kill the pheasants.
Further here Bradbury doesn't just use simile to convey his theme through figurative language, he makes use of multiple others such as in part two, “The Sieve and the Sand” and three “Burning bright”, Bradbury uses metaphor. In “The Seive in the Sand” when Montag approaches Faber about his plans of sprouting seeds of rebellion along the fire stations with books and knowledge Faber is iffy about involving himself in the issue but he also supports the idea of rebellion and gives Montag a great peice of mind statting that “ if you drown, at least die, knowing you were headed for shore” (Bradbury 86). Over the last couple of days in class we have discussed F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story “Winter Dreams”. This short story explores several themes such as reality vs idealism and over expectations. These themes communicates through the use of various literary devices such as irony, symbolism, allegories and imagery. Through the use of these literary devices each character is brought to life and given its own type of personality. One quote that explores how the main character, Dexter, is given a unique personality states “The helpless ecstasy of losing himself in her charm was a powerful opiate rather than a tonic”.
The panting connects to ¨ The Outsiders¨ because it symbolizes Robert Frost's poem. Because the painting is using a beautiful scene. The Grass is pure green, the water is fresh and sweet, and the people are happy. This can connect to the outsiders because the Curtis family wants to live in a world with this freedom and family caring life.
“Winter Dreams” was published in 1926. Francis Scott Fitzgerald is most well-known for his novel “The Great Gatsby”. A common theme he is known for is the American dream and how it is corrupt. Fitzgerald enjoys writing about the poor boy chasing after the rich girl. This story is about a man named Dexter Green trying to achieve the American dream by obtaining the girl he adores.

The population that live among the train, are the only survivors of an Ice Age caused by the release of CW7. The release of CW7 caused the freezing of everything on earth, except for the Snowpiercer.
