“The Most Dangerous Game” Essay In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, A hunter named Rainsford falls off of his boat. He swims to an island called Ship-Trap where there is a man named General Zaroff who hunts humans for fun. Rainsford has to out think General Zaroff so he doesn’t get hunted. Throughout the story, Connell uses suspense, irony, and foreshadowing to hold the reader's’ interest. Suspense is used in the beginning of the story when Rainsford dropped his pipe off the boat when he heard a gun that was fired three times.
