The Little Rock Nine will be forever known as history as great leaders. The Little Rock Nine are the first African Americans to go to an all white high school known as Central High. With the help of Mrs.Bates their mentor to protect them it will not be easy. Carlotta Walls LaNier has written her autobiography called A Mighty Long Way. During the integration of Little Rock Central High in 1957,the media illuminated certain event but painted an inaccurate or incomplete picture of other events.
In the Little Rock Girl a lot of people beat black people during integration, and when a picture was released it changed the minds of some people. When the picture of Elizabeth Eckford sitting on the bench while getting racial slurs thrown at her, The next day it was on the news. It says “News coverage motivated people to get involved”(Tougas 45). This quote is illuminating that people knew how bad Elizabeth was suffering and they tried to motivate her to continue going to central. Many white people were very angry about integration. Mrs.Bates tried to do everything she could to make the Little Rock Nine look good and persevere through Central. Mrs.LaNier says “Thanksgiving was one of those times. The national media want to check on how the integration process was going, so Mrs.Bates staged a thanksgiving dinner”(LaNier 109).Little Rock could not risk losing any more factories or people because of integration and the bombing. Mrs.LaNier says “On the other side Mrs.Bates and the NAACP were just as determined to spin the story the other way-that integration was going fine”(LaNier 108). It is Inaccurate because the Little Rock Nine know that the integration is going bad and want to tell the world, but Mrs.Bates is forcing them to cover it up. The Little Rock Nine want to tell the truth that integration is not going well but Mrs.Bates is trying to cover it
