What comes to mind when you hear the word comedy? Comedy can be interpreted in many differents ways and it’s interpreted differently all around the world. At the end of the day comedy is what makes everyone laugh. Comedy has more parts to it than just making people laugh or chuckle. There are two different levels to comedy there is high comedy and low comedy they both are very different. Low comedy is people laughing at someone else 's pain for example someone falling or someone tripping and it causes a sudden reaction and the person usually laughs loudly. High comedy requires more thinking and causes people to grin and/or smile. The high level of comedy is mostly used by comedians. Dave Barry’s short story “ Live Right and Find Happiness” is a high comedy that uses hyperboles and situational irony to convey the universal truth that just because many people believe something does not make them right. …show more content…

He uses this to show the high comedy in his essay. In the middle of the essay barry says, “ ...Millions of people routinely ruin perfectly good hamburgers and hotdog by putting cold ketchup and mustard on them”(Barry para.3). He says this to exaggerate and it makes people snicker because this is not true but it seem so exaggerated. The people don’t really ruin hotdogs or hamburgers by putting cold ketchup or mustard on them. In another passage in Barry’s short story he says, “...As a result, the people behind them have no choice but to crush their skulls with a ball-peen hammer.
