In the article “Social Media: The Screen, the Brain, and Human Nature” written by Justin Vinh argues that social media creates an atmosphere of loneliness and depression linked to social media use. He believes that this deteriorates the mental health of teenagers, who, as a result, have become isolated. Although some might say that social media connects people more, however, Vinh claims that technology has caused us to become more disconnected. Justin makes a great point when he states, “social media welcomes its users to compare themselves to their peers, and it compels them to try to outdo their opponents” (Vinh 4). The statement he makes is valid because social media became competitive.
The one most important thing I agreed was that us humans are spending too much on our electronics 24/7 than communicating with our peers face to face. Even though I spend on my phone 24/7, I still agree with what the author is saying about how we should communicate face to face with our friends, teachers, family etc. Most of the time our electronics are controlling our lives. For example, if you accidentally sent a text to the wrong person and that text was about that person, something terrible could happen and you could also have serious consequences. The theme of the book that the author is trying to deliver is that there is a way better communication beyond our electronics.

One way is how the people of Baltimore care deeply for what their environment is like. After the riots and fights he says how no one shows the people who came out to clean up the aftermath. This has been a common part of “just communities” that our class has studied.
He also explains how America was messed up even before the millennia generation such as being in debt, falling school system, and being divided in our nation. We agree with the author because us as members of Igen we can relate or agree to some of the points Twenge stated. Gladwell illustrates his argument that social media is not an effective tool for change or revolution by giving examples from the present where social media has claimed to be helpful although it was not, and examples from the past where although social media did not yet exist activist were more successful. When presenting his argument, Gladwell’s diction and writing style allow his article to be so successful and convincing. He starts with a story, and then explains why the example supports his reasoning. This approach makes him seem extremely educated, reinforcing the strengths of his argument. Throughout his article, Gladwell also demonstrates numerous dependable qualities such as self-confidence, experience, and persuasiveness.
