Lizzie Borden--Did she kill her parents? Lizzie Borden was accused of killing her father and stepmother on August 4th, 1892, but did she do it? “This was not a happy family. As the girls grew up, things got worse.” (Yolen 96) Although the Borden sisters never liked their stepmother Abby, would either of them be driven to kill by their hatred? Let us recall that morning to see if anything was particularly off with the family. The morning was normal as could be. John Morse, the uncle to the girls, was having breakfast along with Emma, Abby and their father Andrew. They had finally stopped feeling sick so they joined them for breakfast. Her story was “She wandered to the barn and searched the second story of the building for leads for a sinker for Monday’s possible fishing excursion. She also ate some pears in the barn, remaining there for a span of fifteen or twenty minutes.” (Mock). Of all the suspects, there was one that was never cleared. And that was Lizzie, although it is assumed to be her, she still had a shot at being declared innocent. These murders got so much traction that people were waiting to hear if she was guilty or innocent. Eventually, after the murders someone would make a song detailing the murders “Lizzie Borden took an ax and gave her mother 40 whacks; And when she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41” (Goldman). This little song is so catchy you’ll find yourself humming it, this shows how relevant her story still is to this day. Lizzie seems guilty and hasn't proved to be innocent. It’s her, right?
