Thomas Jefferson did not write the Declaration of Independence on his own, for much of his ideas were not his own but others. Indeed, there is ample evidence that he borrowed from the works of men such as John Locke and George Mason. The first man Thomas Jefferson likely borrowed work from was John Locke. John Locke talked about Two Treatises of Governments.
The historical development of the world from 1690 to 1830 wouldn’t be what it was if it weren’t for John Locke’s Second Treatise of Government. Locke’s Second Treatise not only sparked individualism, but also revolutions, and was a guide to the creations of declarations around the world. Two main revolutions and declarations that Locke’s ideas inspired were the American Revolution and the French Revolution.

We know clear and distinct perceptions independently by God, and his existence provides us with a certainty we might not possess otherwise. However, another possible strategy would be to change Gods role in Descartes philosophy. Instead of seeing God as the validation of clear and distinct perceptions, rather see him as a safeguard against doubt. This strategy, however, is a problem since it re-constructs the Meditations – Philosophical work of Descartes –.This is because it would not be God, who is the ultimate foundation of knowledge, but the clear and distinct
Everyone has their own opinion on how a government should be and how the order should be. Some people are known as the best leaders and some have been known hostile. Certain philosophers have made history based on their views and how they think a society should be handled. Such as John Locke and Niccolò Machiavelli have had different views; how a government should be and what rules should they place on their public. Locke was one of the best “Enlightenment Thinkers”, as for Machiavelli, he was the complete opposite of the other philosopher, Locke.

One of Descartes’ many critiques was that of fellow philosopher John Locke. Using Locke I will argue that many of Descartes claims in his meditations on innate knowledge and reality show problematic. I do not totally agree with his proposition that only the mind can produce certain knowledge and that our senses are always under the attack of the devil that deceives us. I do however agree with Locke’s argument which opposes Descartes concerning doubt in the first meditation. During Descartes first meditation the focus was placed on doubt and how knowledge is innate in each of us.

In this essay I will attempt to find an understanding of both rationalism and empiricism, show the ideologies of both philosophers all whilst evaluating why one is more theory is potentially true than the other.
Two of the most prominent philosophers in history are Immanuel Kant and John Locke. These two men had created the foundation for modern philosophy with their ideology and works. Immanuel Kant, born 22 April 1724 – 12 February 1804, was a German philosopher who is widely considered the central figure of modern philosophy. Since he does not focus much on certainty in his works, he believes that perception can play a major part in the process of knowledge. He further reiterates that knowledge is based on observations and senses. According to his him, ideas come from reflection and sensation while knowledge is founded on experience In summary, I have covered the respective positions and views that both Locke and Descartes hold in respect with self-identity and consciousness.
