In Jonathan Swift’s, A Modest Proposal, the narrator uses logic, ethics, and emotions to show the audience the equivalent treatment the Irish and their children are receiving. What Swift proposes is satirical, yet exposes the reality of what the Irish are facing. The narrator’s logical appeal states that the lower class was growing, but if they could sell their children, the economy could flourish overall. Ethically, the narrator establishes trust by clarifying he would not benefit from the proposal because he has no wife or child of his own.
