In the great novel Of Mice and Men, By John Steinbeck, one of the main themes is loneliness. There are many quotes about loneliness, but to me loneliness is the greatest fear of any man ,most would rather have death. Loneliness can be the downfall of even the toughest man. His life can really not be any worse. What more is there to take away from him, once he is lonely there is no dignity or pride to abscond from him. With no one to talk to you can’t consider it living, it is just being alive. What is the meaning of life when there is no one to enjoy it with?

Crooks is one character in the novel who experiences loneliness. He lives in his own little room and sleeps alone in the barn. The effects of loneliness can be seen even by his outside appearance. Mr.Steinbeck says that, “His body was bent over to the left by his crooked spine, and his eyes lay deep in his head.”(67). His face shows that he has done only hard, dirty, and cheap work for all of his life, barely making a living . The author also states that, “ His lean face was lined with deep black wrinkles, and he had thin, pain tightened lips which were lighter than his face.”(67). She is always trying to talk to other guys. There is many scenes in the book where she is trying to flirt with guys that aren't her husband. She is always trying to put herself out there, because she doesn’t really love curley , she just wanted to be an actress. The only reason that she married curley is to escape her mom, who she accuses of stealing her letter from the ma from hollywood.she even tells Lennie”I don’ like curley.
