Today, people say that the number one problem that many of us are facing is loneliness or grief. Imagine what it feels like to be lonely every day becoming isolated from everyone else. Loneliness leads to low self-esteem and deprivation. The loneliness in the novel Of Mice and Men is filled with characters who are unable to find a way out of their lonely lives. Lennie and the wife of Curley are a few examples who faced distress and tragedy as a consequence. Lennie, the main character of the story, suffers loneliness mainly because he is mentally ill. His retardation isolates him from the others because he is unable to process things as quickly as they can. George (best friend) is the only one who can understand him. Lennie is frequently in deep thought about his dream of having a farm and tending rabbits. As a result, Lennie is unable to face reality and is lonely in his world.
