Abstract The human personality can be studied and researched in many different ways. Looking at current and historical accounts of human nature can be effective in studying personalities. Taking into account the different personalities of psychologists/behaviorists and their research, it is easy to understand why we have so many different theories. Their theories and scientific research grow along with findings and historical accounts. Some are based, and expand upon existing theories, and others may be completely new theories that challenge what researchers already understand. Regarding personality theories, one must decide if the behavior of the human is free will or deterministic. Unconscious and conscious thought, along with the individual's self-awareness are important factors to take into consideration. Some more important factors to consider are the environment of the individual, ethnicity, social background …show more content…
It also suggests that behavior is the result of a stimulus, either positive or negative reinforcement, and is determined by the individual’s environment. Behaviorists believe that behavior can be objectively and scientifically measured. Behavioral human nature can, simply put, be observed through experiments and lab studies. A well-known, noted example of this would be the experiments with Pavlov’s Dogs, and the Skinner Box. Although behavioral theory provides highly applicable therapy, it disregards mediational process, biology, and implies that individuals have little or no free-will. Through classical and operant conditioning, individuals and animals can learn new behavior using positive and negative stimuli. This in turn can be used to aid in gender role development, behavioral therapy/modification and the treatment and aid of phobias.
