A group of young boys were stranded on an island during World War II. The boys, isolated from society, dealt with their own war on this island. The two boys, Piggy and Ralph, found a conch shell and summoned the other boy to elect a leader. They chose Ralph to lead them, but they also chose another boy, named Jack, to lead the hunters and they sent a boy, named Simon to explore the island. They decided to light a signal fire to see if they could attract any ships. They saw a ship on the horizon, but the signal fire had gone out. Ralph blamed the problem on Jack, and the other hunters, because they were supposed to be maintaining the fire. Jack returned with his first kill. The boys then organized a hunting expedition to kill the beast. Jack then started a new tribe of hunters who had a strange ritual in which the killed a sow. They decapitated the sow and put its head on a sharpened stake as a jungle offering to the beast. Later, encountering the bloody, fly-covered head, Simon had a terrible vision, during which it seemed to him that the head was talking. The voice, which he imagined, belonged to the Lord of the Flies, and it said that Simon will never escape him, for he exists within all people. Simon fainted. When he woke up, he went to the mountain, where he saw the dead parachutist. He understood then that the beast did not exist in real life but rather within each of the boys. Simon traveled to the beach to tell the others what he had seen. But the others were in the midst of a fight, even Ralph and Piggy joined Jack’s feast. When they saw Simon’s shadowy figure emerge from the jungle, they fell upon him and killed him with their bare hands and teeth. Then Ralph attacked Jack’s stronghold and he hit Piggy with a large boulder and killed him. They were saved by a naval officer who saw their raging fire in the
