In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies there are many injustices that take place throughout the novel. The three injustices are physical and verbal abuse towards Piggy, Piggy’s glasses being taken without his permission, and the constant thirst for power between Jack and Ralph. These are some of the injustices occurring in the Lord of the Flies.
One of the first evidences of injustice that takes place in the novel is the verbal and physical abuse towards Piggy. This all starts at the beginning of the novel when Ralph is teasing Piggy in the form of mocking and making fun of him. The conch can be used anywhere, Jack is the only one breaking the rules by talking without the conch. Piggy is trying to stand up for himself during this part of the novel, none of the other boys are standing up for Piggy. Jack is thinking that it is okay that what he is doing to Piggy is fine. This gets so out of hand that physical violence starts. Jack went off hunting and took all the hunters with him, nobody was tending to the fire in result the fire went out and no signal was lit. ‘There was a ship. Out there. You said you’d keep the fire going and you let it out!’ He took a step towards Jack who turned to face him. ‘They might have seen us. We might have gone home-‘ ... Drove Jack to violence. The bolting look came into his blue eyes. He took a step, and able at last to hit someone, stuck his fist into Piggy’s stomach. Piggy sat down with a grunt. Jack stood over him.
