Biology or environment If you were stranded on an island, and it caused you to have savage and immoral behavior, would you blame it on the environment or biological factors? I say environment.

In the book, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, he writes about characters who crashed a plane and are stranded on an island. The setting is on an island. It is big with lots of trees and has “beasts” as the boys would say. The main characters are Jack and Ralph. Jack and Ralph continuously butt heads with each other. Conflicts occur in the novel when the boys try to decide who’s boss. Everyone has different opinions on who and why they want to be the boss.

I blame the boy’s behavior on the environment because they were scared and alone and not in their natural surroundings. “The prisoners began to suffer a wide array of humiliations and punishments at the hands of the guards, and many began to show signs of mental and emotional distress” is a quote from Stanford Prison Experiment. Also, the fact that they’re stranded and left alone caused them enough anger and frustration. The island didn’t provide much. So the boys had to learn how to make do with what they could. Going from getting everything handed to them to trying to survive on their own on a stranded island was a huge change. They were scared and alone and had no adults to guide them. There were boys from all over. Which meant there were all types of different personalities and opinions. And being left without any parental guidance as a child, usually isn’t a good thing.

These boys had to learn how to get tough and responsible real quick. Imagine being stranded on an island, scared and alone, with no mature guidance. Would you blame your savage and immoral behavior on the environment or
