Man is centered on humankind being the most important element of existence which is a threat to the surrounding nature. King Henry uses Aristotle’s three Appeals to assuage the fears of his soldiers and to inspire unyielding confidence and passion. Two nights before a great battle to retake France’s land, King Henry of England disguises himself as a common soldier to discover the sentiment of his army. However, outnumbered and afraid of dying, the men tells the disguised King Henry about their reluctance to head into battle. Consequently, the next day, King Henry decides to raise his army’s morale through a speech. King Henry begins by appealing to the men’s sense of logic, using logos to argue that no more men are needed for the battle: “If we are mark’d to die, we are enow / to do our country loss; and if to live, / the fewer men, the greater share of honour”

Patrick Henry and Henry Highland Garnet, despite speaking in different situations, both use language to their advantage.
In the novel, Lord of the flies written by William Golding, a group of boys get stranded on an island. The group of boys has to overcome obstacles that the island brings them. The boys elected their chief, Ralph during the first assembly that Ralph called. Then the boys split apart making Jack's tribe which focuses mainly on hunting, while Ralph's tribe's priorities are making shelter. The boys become civilized to savage when they create rules for each other when the hunters brutally slaughter a pig, and when they kill Simon.

Of us.” That quote (p.140) was spoken by the main protagonist, Ralph, in Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding after Ralph’s friend, Simon, was killed by the “animalistic” actions of the other boys. In William Shakespeare’s Henry V, the character of King Henry delivers some powerful verbiage, known as St. Crispin’s Day Speech, to his troops in order to rally the men for battle. In this speech, King Henry chooses to invoke themes such as glory, religion, and comradery to make the battle they are about to fight immortal in the soldiers’ minds and to motivate them to fight together. These themes draw similar emotions in all men, no matter their background; all men have the need for honour, the urge to please the deity they believe in, and the need to trust in their fellow men. Every man wants his story to be remembered.
The characters of Jack from Lord of the Flies and Jody from Their Eyes were Watching God, both had similar flaws, but those flaws affected their stories differently. Jack’s power struggle and separation from Ralph from the of Lord of the Flies was greatly impacted by Jack’s need to prove himself, his extreme want for more power, and his idea that Ralph stand as a threat to his power. In Their Eyes were Watching God, Jody’s idea that Janie might be a threat to his attention, Jody’s severe hubris, and his desire to be a big voice leads to his mental distance, and eventual lack of any communication with his spouse, Janie.
Lord of The Flies: Human Nature Are humans instinctively evil? Savage? In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, young boys are left to organize themselves into a society to keep balance and peace on the island. When the society crumbles beneath their feet, one must ask these questions. The downfall and overall plot of the book is largely telling of human nature, and may be a smaller analogy for human nature in itself.
A good change for society may cause chaos. Throughout history we see many circumstances where good changes for society’s often cause certain downfalls. In the story Lord of the Flies, Ralph was desperate to relight the fire for the benefit of his followers. Ralph stated, “ Hasn't anyone got a sense? We've got to relight that fire…” (95).
Golding says “The boys broke into shrill, exciting cheering” (41) in the beginning of the novel, then at the end of the novel says, “A great clamor rose among the savages” (164). William Golding who wrote The Lord of the Flies changes his word choice from “boys” to “savages” to emphasize the fact that the boys change into savage creatures. Three symbols represent civilization and change into chaos over the course of the novel. The three symbols representing change are Piggy’s glasses, The fire, and the conch. These figures demonstrate the important theme that the calm civilization will soon break out into disorder.
