Human trafficking is a largely hidden crime that has only recently gained the attention of law enforcement, human rights advocates, and policymakers. In Mexico, federal and state authorities have a range of anti-trafficking prevention efforts, but remain inadequate due to the degree of the issue. Officials in Mexico have continued to place efforts to prevent child sex tourism through training sessions, by partnering with the tourism chamber of commerce, and distributing awareness materials to reduce the demand for sexual exploitation of children (“Mexico”, n.d.).
