I read the book “the terrorist” by Caroline B cooney. I liked this book because it had a lot mystery, twists and conflicts. The main theme is about when Laura 's brother billy is killed by a bomb given to him in a busy subway in london. The authorities have no idea at all to who was behind this, so Laura makes it her main goal to find who did it.
She then sees a bright paper flowing by, saying that city hall was still open. “I forced myself to stand up and chase the sheet of paper.” (Page 332). Once she arrives, the mayor offers her four bags of food every week. This was a miracle to the family.
He gave her kiss and a hug but “he was so tempted to go with her” because her perfume was making him wanting to go with her. So she left and he started his pretend work for the night. He had yellow paper with work on it from his job. When the window was open a gust of wind came in and picked up the yellow paper and took it outside onto the ledge. “ It was ridiculous”

Usually there’s a winner in a lottery, but not in Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery”. This story intrigued me by it's suspenseful nature and it's chaotic events. In small town America, they come together once a year to perform an annual tradition. Mrs. Jackson demonstrates literary devices such as foreshadowing, mood, and conflict in “The Lottery”. Foreshadowing is used quite a few times in “The Lottery”.

Through the plight of their characters, Tessie and the Jane, Jackson and Gilman masterfully introduce their readers to the harsh realities of cruel and unjust societies. Although Tessie and Jane are from two separate stories, they bare many remarkable similarities, as both women are victims of their worlds’ formidable and stifling traditions. Both of the women’s different approaches to their similar plights, as well as the treatment they receive from their husbands, create unique and intriguing characters for both stories.
“The Lottery” is an realism/horror story written by Shirley Jackson. The story is about some villagers of a small New England town who follow the tradition of making a lottery every year. When it comes, they like to celebrate it with the correct rules and the correct objects so they can feel more comfortable. Everyone need to take a slip of paper from a small black box, and the paper with a black dot in it means that the family is the winner, then they raffle again; Bill Hutchinson, who was the husband of the protagonist Tessie Hutchinson picked a paper with a black dot in it, that meant that Tessie was the winner of the lottery, then she starts complaining because the drawing was not conducted properly. At the end, the townspeople moved off to a cleared spot outside the town and they begin stoning her to death (Jackson).

Flowers are blooming, and the towns people are gathering for the lottery, which is a tradition the town does every year. As the reader reads the first paragraph they think this is a happy story. The title also says, “The Lottery” which is a word often used for winning something or receiving a prize.
She hurriedly escaped the awkward conversation and walked back into the bathroom and took out a crumbled piece of paper to write a note. She knew he would be here for another minute or two as she looked at his list and notices that it did not compare to what was in the cart. She wrote the note and then went to go find him. The pleasant and easy-going tone, presented throughout the beginning of Jacksons’s work aims to deter readers from questioning the villager’s initial motives.
The villagers on “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson are afraid to let go of their tradition, the lottery. They are concern of unknown consequences that will happen if they change their old customs. So, for every year, the villagers gather at the square to do the lottery at 10 AM . The villagers are afraid to quit their outdated tradition because they think that changing their old customs will only bring trouble.
