Smooth Talker There are a few different things that a man needs to be an extreamly good at to make a great wingman for their friend. Men have several different traits that can be irresistible to some women. Most women cannot resist a man who is a smooth talker, funny, and has that bad boy free spirited attitude. In Dagoberto Gilb’s short story Love in L.A., one of the main characters, Jake, poses all three of these traits that most women love. After observing all of the traits that Jake possesses, he would clearly be a perfect wingman for one of his friends. Maybe because the good girl wants to help change the bad boys ways and make him a better person, who knows? In Gild’s short story the character Mariana is obviously the good girl in the story and Jake is the bad boy. When Jake crashes into Mariana’s car, Mariana tries to do the right thing and get all of Jakes insurance information to make sure all of the damage gets taking care of so her father does not get upset with her. All Jake is worried about is getting to know Mariana on a personal level and her not finding out that he has a dead tag on his vehicle and no car insurance. After they leave the scene of the crash poor Mariana is probably still shaken up from the impact and worrying herself sick about what her father is going to say to her once he finds out that she was in a car accident and that there was damage done to the car. Jake on the other hand goes back to day dreaming about his dream car and how lucky he thought he was to have gotten away without getting the authorities involved. After Jake drives away the story states “His sense of freedom swelled as he drove into the now moving traffic, though he couldn’t stop the thought about that FM stereo radio and crushed velvet interior and the new car smell that would make it even better.” (Gilb 97). Jake having this bad boy, free spirted attitude would make him an excellent wing man. Women would be flocking towards Jake and his friend when they realize
