I really appreciated this chapter because it address the problems students of lower SES deal with. While I have never been a full-time teacher in a public shcool setting, where there is a diverse mix of students, I have been apart of several education programs and witnessed the differences between students of lower and higher SES. I used to work in Harlem, NY at an afterschool program for the city so all the public school students attended and it was in a very low SES neighborhood. Although they only spend the afternoons with me I could see the learned helplessness the chapter speaks about when they would attempt to do homework.
