Alcohol is defined as a colorless, volatile, flammable liquid that is produced by natural fermentation of sugars. It is the intoxicating component of wine, beer, spirits and other drinks and also used as an industrial solvent as fuel (“What is Alcohol”). That does not sound so bad does it? Alcohol is specified as a drug, it is a depressant meaning that it delays vital functions. This could result in slurred speech, unstable movement, and also unable to react quickly. If a person takes in too much alcohol then the body cannot handle themselves, humans start to lose coordination and control in the body (“Watch”). There is also a lot of long-term effects of alcohol. Getting married and voting for the next president has a larger effect on one’s life, and is more difficult than consuming alcohol (“9 Prevailing Pros”). If the drinking age was lowered it would be better on the economy, because there would be more people going to bars and night clubs, so they would be making more money (Drinking Age). Another reason why the drinking age should be decreased to 18 is that is would potentially reduce the amount of underage young adults drinking. Many young adults that are underage binge drink being that it is against the law for them to drink (Brown). If the drinking age was lowered than it would also reduce the thrill of breaking the law. If 18 year olds were able to consume alcohol, they would not be breaking the law (“9 Prevailing Pros”). Another pro to lowering the MLDA is that if college students are able to go to school and pay for their classes, they should be able to handle and purchase alcohol. College students take out loans risking their credit, and by doing this it shows humans are responsible enough to make adult life decisions. If a college student is mature enough to go into debt at the age of 18, then people should be able to purchase alcoholic beverages
