June 15, 2013- “the night that would change the lives of 10 parents for the rest of eternity. Troubled teen, Ethan Couch, speeding down the road drunk at excessive speeds over 70 mph, struck a vehicle pulled off to the side of the road, fatally taking the lives of four teenagers”(Valiente). If the United States Government had permitted the consumption of alcoholic beverages at a lesser age such as age 18, students would have more of an idea of the effects of drinking, allowing them to navigate through the hardships embedded with drinking alcoholic beverages at a lesser age, rather than binge drinking, risking their health problems, to prove their “coolness” or “toughness” to their peers. This being said, the legal age of the consumption of alcoholic beverages should ultimately be lowered to a lesser age, such as the age of 18 as it was in the late 1900’s. Doing so would prevent “binge drinking” “Underage drinking” as well as allowing students to be properly educated in activities such as drinking. Lowering the drinking age to a more acceptable rate, as such of the drinking age of foreign countries, may very well have high potential to lessen the amount of catastrophic accidents that have affected many thousands each …show more content…
Allowing this consumption in the dorms would allow for the students to stay stationary, leaving their vehicles off of the road, decreasing the risk of a “DUI” or even worse, an accident caused by a drunk driver as seen in the Ethan Couch case. The drinking age should be lowered in correspondence with the adolescents ability to serve their country, making the ultimate sacrifice, along with trying to pay off hundreds of thousands of dollars in college
