Throughout America's history, the design of our currency has been changed quite a few times for reasons such as, avoiding counterfeit threats or to instill and show our American pride. In 2020, the U.S. will be changing the face of the $10 bill to a woman's face. The year 2020 is significant because it is the 100th year anniversary of when women gained the right to vote. You could say there are many women that deserve this honor, but I believe that Lucy Stone should be the one featured on the bill because of her many contributions to the evolution of American democracy. Lucy Stone lived in a time when the only main figures in society were white, adult men. Therefore, they were usually the only ones who were considered heroes. However, at the same time, there is evidence to support that Stone should also be considered a hero. Although, that's only because, sadly, a lot of her contributions have been overlooked. As mentioned before, she started a couple organizations and was a part of many organizations. For another example, while at Oberlin she formed the first women's college debating society. Stone was a fiery and forceful orator. Namely, during the week days, she would give speeches for women's suffrage. On weekends, she would normally speak for abolition. In 1958, Stone reminded Americans of the “no taxation without representation” when she refused to pay her property taxes. In conclusion, Lucy stone was a leading abolitionist, suffragist and orator. She was a vocal advocate and organizer promoting rights for women and African Americans. She contributed so much to our democracy and without her we wouldn't be where we are now. Evidently, she deserves to be the new face on the $10 bill to show our appreciation for her hard work, dedication, and
