My name is Emily and this is my story. My story is no different then the typical teenager except for one thing I have terminal cancer. My type of cancer is called Acute Lymphatic Leukaemia (ALL) it occurs when there is an overproduction of immature white blood cells.
It all started when I was 12 that’s when I found out I had ALL. I remember sitting in the doctors room wondering what the doctor said that made my parents cry. I overheard the doctor saying that with my cancer I would have persistent tiredness, dizziness, paleness and shortness of breath. I would have frequent infections and slow healing. The nurses where all very nice to me. I remember sitting in the chair watching the chemicals get pumped into me. After the chemo I sat in the chair while my parents talked to the nurse about the symptoms I would get after having chemo. I overheard them saying that I would feel tired all the time, I would get sick. But I remember thinking that I won’t get to live the normal life of a child my age.
When I got home from the hospital I went straight to bed because I was so tired from the chemo. When I woke up I ran straight to the bathroom. When I got back I looked at my pillow and noticed that there was hair on it. I ran to tell my parents what was happening. They told me that this was going to happen and that it would be best if I shaved my hair. I sat in the chair while my mum shaved my hair. I remember seeing my hair falling to the ground and I started crying.
The next day I went to the hospital for a checkup. The doctor sent me for an MRI scan. Going through the scan was a little frightening. The machine made this annoying chugging sound. After we went back to the doctor’s office so he could tell me the results. Luckily the doctor said the chemo was working so far. The doctor said I would have to take lots of medication including steroids. The medication made me
