Throughout the play, “The Tragedy of Macbeth”, the main character, Macbeth, who is a Scottish General and the Thane of Glamis has tried to control his future and bury his actions in the past. The reason Macbeth does this is because he knows that his actions are unworthy and below chivalrous, but his ambition cloud his judgment and causes him to do these heinous acts. Particularly what Macbeth is trying so hard to change is how people see Scotland, he is trying to change how people see Scotland and bury the old ways.

In Act 1 Scene 3 we see the key event that causes the rest of the dominoes to fall and create the story we now have before us. In this scene Macbeth and Banquo encounter the 3 mischievous witches, who tell them their future. In Macbeth 's future he will be King, and in Banquo 's future he will not be King, but his children shall be king. Banquo does not take what the witches say at face value and suspects that there is another unforseen move that the witches are planning. But when Macbeth hears this prophecy he believes it and begins to question why he will be king? What events lead to him becoming king? He then questions why Banquo 's children will take up his mantel? He also begins to wonder how his reign will end. Will he die of natural causes? Will he die in a war trying to protect his throne? Or will he be killed due to betrayal? These questions along with the prophecy are just the beginnings of Macbeth 's paranoia, and his endless pursuit to get to be
