What is corruption? Corruption is the wrongdoing or misuse of power to gain personal pleasures. An urge so powerful that no one canwho cannot help themselves to change for the greater good. Corruption mingles with greed and with greed comes the overwhelming sensation of desire. A hunger so deep that it can’t be helped. Corruption is nothing more than the undoing of man. Every character in this play is corrupt in some way. Every human being is. There are different ways to see it however. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth had shown their corruption through personal desires. Other characters like Macduff have shown it through a hunt for revenge. Macbeth saw Macduff as a threat. In order to keep him in place and send a warning at the same time, he sent his goons to go to Macduff’s castle, and kill his family and everyone who got in their way. “The castle of Macduff I will surprise, seize upon Fife, give to th' edge o' th' sword his wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls that trace him in his line.” (4.1.165-169). When Macduff got the message he was angered and outraged and full of sorrow for the loss of his entire family. In act 5 of Macbeth, Macduff was the one who had slain Macbeth and ended his tyranny. “Hail, king! For so thou art: behold, where stands the usurper’s cursed head: the time is free:“ (5.9.25-26). Full of emotion and power and how the world can go mad in a matter of seconds. This text tells a story of no one is innocent. There’s no such thing. Everyone is guilty of something. Similar to Lord of the Flies, the main characters, Jack and Macbeth, are both faced with the intend to lead and both become addicted to the corruption of power like a drug. At the beginning of both stories, Jack and Macbeth desired power and they would do anything to get it in their hands.
