Ambition
Ambition is a strong desire to do or to achieve something, requiring determination and hard work. In the play Macbeth ambition is dramatically used as a dangerous quality. In the way that Macbeth will even kill innocent lives, for example the guards, just to achieve what he has always wanted, which is to be king. Macbeth is willing to do anything so no one can take him out of power or over throw his throne. Although maybe his wicked ambition may not have been the best choice, ambition was the driving force of Macbeth.
One of Macbeth’s first Ambition is to murder Duncan the king. The concept of killing Duncan starts with the three witches prophesying that Macbeth will be king. Macbeth wants to make this prophecy become true although he not sure how yet. However, the prophecy is fulfilled only because his wife Lady Macbeth makes her husband feel as if he is not a man. Banquo prophecies made by the witches were “he'll be less than Macbeth but greater” which means that he’ll be less powerful then Macbeth will eventually be but he’ll be a greater man and more noble, he may not as wealthy but he was ultimately happier, and he shall be the father of kings though he would never be a king himself. When Macbeth finds out about these prophecies he automatically Macbeths result to this was chaos and murder even if it meant he would have to kill his on best friend and Fleance, Banquo’s son. Fleance was never crowned king at the end of the play, it is actually supposed that Shakespeare is referring to James I, who was somehow related to Banquo.
