The Development of the Evil Mood in Macbeth Throughout his play Macbeth, Shakespeare uses various writing techniques and patterns to consistently develop a mood of evil. One prominent technique he utilizes is altering the atmosphere or weather to signify the presence of evil. Additionally, Macbeth's intentions play a significant role in reinforcing this mood, as Shakespeare frequently portrays him as possessing cynical and malevolent traits. Macbeth's greed often leads him to resort to violent or murderous acts, which further develops the sense of evil. In the play, Macbeth, Shakespeare implements the manipulation of the atmosphere, along with Macbeth's sinister intentions and the incorporation of mass mortalities to develop the mood of evil. Stormy or rainy weather is a recurring motif used by Shakespeare to portray a dark and ominous atmosphere. Often the play encounters a negative change in the weather indicating a rise of evil. This rise often had a lot of correspondence with Macbeth and his desire to maintain the position of king.
