Several themes created in MacBeth by William Shakespeare because of the language used one of the themes being appearance versus reality. People are not always as they seem which the Witches point out when they observe that “fair is foul, and foul is fair” (1, 1, 12). Using a paradox, the Witches let us know that good is bad and bad is good. Everything isn’t what it always seems to be. This foreshadows that people who seem respected and noble can actually be corrupt just like MacBeth. He appears to be a good man that could become a great king but in reality because of the path that he has taken MacBeth is not a good man.
