Brianna Crawford Mrs. Potenzini English II 22 May 2017 Macbeth Macbeth is a tragic hero. Tragic heroes are usually of a noble or royal descent, which Macbeth is, and they lead themselves to their own downfall. The first reason he is a tragic hero is because Macbeth is known as a noble war hero to all and is looked up to by the common people, especially to the king after being told by the captain “For brave Macbeth, Disdaining fortune, with his brandished steel, which smoked with bloody execution.. Till he unseamed him from the nave to th’ chops and fixed his head upon our battlements.” (Macbeth 3) Being told this, Macbeth had earned a higher trust with the king. Macbeth is a military leader and is seen as great with his title Thane of Glamis. Once hearing of the great defeat accomplished by Macbeth, Duncan wants to gift him the new title of Thane of Cawdor since the former was a traitor. Though Macbeth did realize that murder isn't the right thing, “We will proceed no further in this business.” -to lady macbeth- (Macbeth 19) He is still persuaded by his wife to continue on with the murder. At the time of the murder Macbeth is seemingly going crazy saying “A dagger of the mind, a false creation. Proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain? I see thee yet, in form as palpable as this which now I draw.” (Macbeth 24) He is so obsessed with the murder now, that he is seeing things and making himself have to kill the king. After the murder he is immediately feeling the guilt “Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep.” Killing Duncan has also killed his own peace of mind, and his consequence of the deed is having to live in fear of the same happening to
