Macbeth is the Shakespearean play that features the triumphant uprise and the inevitable downfall of its main character. In this play, Macbeth’s downfall can be considered to be the loss of his moral integrity and this is achieved by ambition, despite this, Lady Macbeth and the witches work through his ambition, furthering to assist his inevitable ruin. Ambition alone is the most significant factor that led to Macbeth’s downfall. The witches are only able to influence his actions through Macbeth’s pre-existing and the three witches see that Macbeth has ambition and uses it to control his action. Ambition alone is displayed throughout the play to be the most significant cause for Macbeth’s downfall.
In play Macbeth, Shakespeare reveals that an individual’s great desire for power will lead him/her to perform consequential deeds that will scar his/her conscience and change the outcome of his/her life eternally. Macbeth is informed by three witches that he is going to become king and this initiates Macbeth’s thought of becoming powerful. Macbeth doesn’t act on his thoughts until he tells his wife, Lady Macbeth, that he could become king. Lady Macbeth is extremely power hungry and does all she can to convince Macbeth to be just as desirable as her. Together, they come up with a plan to murder King Duncan, so that Macbeth can become king like the witches foretold.
As a result of these prophecies, Macbeth murders the king to obtain his position. This act causes lots of guilt within Macbeth for the rest of the story. Through the character, Macbeth, Shakespeare uses guilt to demonstrate that the consequences of committing immoral actions

The main character hears a prophecy of him become king, this cause his wife to convince him to kill for it. Macbeth kills the king, guards and becomes king. Treason is expected by many and as Lady Macbeth goes crazy an army is formed, and Macbeth is killed. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have selfish desires to have power which leads them into corruption and their ultimate deaths.

Macbeth would long for control and power over everyone, he believes that he deserves the throne for all that he has done for the country of Scotland. Once the witches inform him about becoming king he would start to imagine himself being the king and would then do anything to try to achieve that goal. At the beginning of William Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ the protagonist Macbeth is described as ‘brave’, ‘noble’ and ‘honourable’, however Lady Macbeth’s and Macbeths desire for power consumes them. Macbeth’s ambition overrides his conscience and transformed his greatest strength into his greatest weakness. Macbeth’s inability to resist temptations that led him to be greedy for power, Macbeth’s easily manipulative nature which allowed his mind to be swayed, Macbeth having no self control and his excessive pride was what allowed him to renew his previously honourable and celebrated title into one of an evil ‘tyrant’. Macbeth is led by the prophecies of the witches after they foretell he will become the Thane of Cawdor. Not only the witches, but also his wife easily manipulate Macbeth as she attacks his manhood in order to provoke him to act on his desires.
Macbeth is not as ambitious at the beginning of the play. The beginning of the play shows that Macbeth is actually more of a hero, and a well honored person, other than a “bad” person. “For brave MacBeth- well he deserves that name” shows that he was respected and it showed how the other characters in the play feel towards him.
Throughout history many leaders have had large amounts of power that eventually led to their fall because of poor decisions that were influenced by others. In Macbeth, the central protagonist, Macbeth, undergoes a drastic transformation from accomplished warrior to power hungry dictator with countless instances of bloodshed left in his wake ; Macbeth’s greed as well as the urges brought on by those around him lead Macbeth down a treacherous and destructive path to power. Macbeth’s journey to power begins with a urge to murder Duncan in order to become the kind of Scotland, Macbeth states, “Let not light see my black and deep desires.” (1.IV.58) Although Macbeth commits this murder himself and seeks it for personal gain, this murder would not have been committed without his wife exerting pressure on him to commit the crime.
In Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, Shakespeare presents power through the main character’s objective, to become the ruler. Macbeth looks forward to his ‘rise’ as king but instead, he wants as much control as he conceivably can and this eventually leads to his downfall. He listens to the prediction of the witches and gets to be so fixated on satisfying the prediction since it states that he will inevitably get to be a ruler. Having this information, Macbeth goes out of his way to constrain the prediction to come genuine. Shakespeare showed Macbeth as a power-hungry person who goes on to commit violent and treasonous acts because of his desires.

The tragic hero is Macbeth, who was at first, a loyal and strong soldier. His character changes dramatically once his wife, Lady Macbeth, convinces him to murder the king and become it. After this point in time, he changes from a loyal soldier to a tyrant king, killing many of his friends in order to stay king.
