Macbeth adopts his prophecy as an objective, even calling it “ the deed” as if it is something he must accomplish. His ambitions nature yearns to accelerate the process by removing Duncan from the thrones forcibly. This reveals the evil in macbeth, because the “ weird sisters only tell him that he will be king , they gave him no advice as to how to go about it- it is his own “ black and deep desires” which control his sinful actions.
In play Macbeth, Shakespeare reveals that an individual’s great desire for power will lead him/her to perform consequential deeds that will scar his/her conscience and change the outcome of his/her life eternally. Macbeth is informed by three witches that he is going to become king and this initiates Macbeth’s thought of becoming powerful. Macbeth doesn’t act on his thoughts until he tells his wife, Lady Macbeth, that he could become king. Lady Macbeth is extremely power hungry and does all she can to convince Macbeth to be just as desirable as her. Together, they come up with a plan to murder King Duncan, so that Macbeth can become king like the witches foretold.
The promise of power leads Lady Macbeth and Macbeth into a corrupt lifestyle all for something that is already taken. Macbeth wants power but he does not know how far he will go for his desires until it is too late and he has killed and lied for it. Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth that he can kill for what is his but he does not agree with it, so Lady Macbeth says that if he does kill the king he is a man. “And to be more than what you were, you would / Be so much more the man”(2,7,57-58).
Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth, shows how murder and corruption disrupts natural order through the outcomes of his characters’ decisions in the story. In the beginning of the play, the protagonist, Macbeth, and his good friend, Banquo, is confronted by three witches who give them both prophecies foretelling the future. Macbeth is told that he will be promoted to Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland, and Banquo’s descendants will become kings. After hearing these prophecies, Macbeth makes poor decisions to make sure they come to pass. As the play progresses, the intense guilt of the character’s lead to insanity, and murder seems to be the only option in their situations.
Shakespeare’s story Macbeth is a play that contains guilt, pleasure, and manipulation. The character Macbeth was always loyal to his king that he had served, King Duncan, until Macbeth’s wife Lady Macbeth manipulated him into killing his king that he has been so loyal to. Macbeth thought that it was absurd to think that way, but she made it possible to make him think that it is a good idea to get him what he wanted, to be king. Macbeth made a deal with three witches to that he could become king if he completed his three prophecies, they gave him. He completed the job of murdering the king and has become king, but he was reminded of something, that his friend Banquo were still here and that he also made a deal with the witches to make his son
At the beginning of William Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ the protagonist Macbeth is described as ‘brave’, ‘noble’ and ‘honourable’, however Lady Macbeth’s and Macbeths desire for power consumes them. Macbeth’s ambition overrides his conscience and transformed his greatest strength into his greatest weakness. Macbeth’s inability to resist temptations that led him to be greedy for power, Macbeth’s easily manipulative nature which allowed his mind to be swayed, Macbeth having no self control and his excessive pride was what allowed him to renew his previously honourable and celebrated title into one of an evil ‘tyrant’. Macbeth is led by the prophecies of the witches after they foretell he will become the Thane of Cawdor. Not only the witches, but also his wife easily manipulate Macbeth as she attacks his manhood in order to provoke him to act on his desires.
The allure of power is enough to make him want to take it for himself and act that once would have never crossed his mind. However, Macbeth knows how wrong it is and is reluctant to act on his thoughts. This is shown when Macbeth is talking to himself and says, “Present fears are less than horrible imaginings. My thought, whose murder yet is fantastical,/ shakes so my single state of man/That function is smothered in surmise,/And nothing is but what is not” (I.3.137-142). Macbeth expresses his doubts about killing the King and usurping the crown but eventually, his ambition trumps his doubts and he kills the
Macbeth would long for control and power over everyone, he believes that he deserves the throne for all that he has done for the country of Scotland. Once the witches inform him about becoming king he would start to imagine himself being the king and would then do anything to try to achieve that goal. Once Lady Macbeth also finds out about the witches prophecy, she and Macbeth would plan to kill the king in order for her to be queen, Lady Macbeth
Macbeth is not as ambitious at the beginning of the play. The beginning of the play shows that Macbeth is actually more of a hero, and a well honored person, other than a “bad” person. “For brave MacBeth- well he deserves that name” shows that he was respected and it showed how the other characters in the play feel towards him.
Macbeth is the Shakespearean play that features the triumphant uprise and the inevitable downfall of its main character. In this play, Macbeth’s downfall can be considered to be the loss of his moral integrity and this is achieved by ambition, despite this, Lady Macbeth and the witches work through his ambition, furthering to assist his inevitable ruin. Ambition alone is the most significant factor that led to Macbeth’s downfall. The witches are only able to influence his actions through Macbeth’s pre-existing and the three witches see that Macbeth has ambition and uses it to control his action. Ambition alone is displayed throughout the play to be the most significant cause for Macbeth’s downfall.
Throughout history many leaders have had large amounts of power that eventually led to their fall because of poor decisions that were influenced by others. In Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the main character, Macbeth is a nobleman to King Duncan. During this play Macbeth has a chance to take the place of King Duncan. When Macbeth’s wife Lady Macbeth finds out she soon gets involved in immoral ways. Shakespeare is trying to show that people that have a chance at power can be manipulated into doing wrong things by those around them causing their downfall.
Lady Macbeth’s constant questioning of his manhood early on lead to an even greater amount of pressure on Macbeth to gain power through any means necessary. As stated by 19th century English writer Lord Acton, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Macbeth starts as a man who has been praised for murder he committed on the battlefield and soon becomes the very enemy he originally fought against by rebelling against higher power. With his inherited power Macbeth gains the access to do whatever he wants with those who oppose him.
Shakespeare's tragedy, Macbeth, analyzes the tragic downfall of a man who pursued his prophecy given to him by three witches, and suffered the downfall because of it. Told his power was inevitable, Macbeth explores the idea of murdering the King to achieve his goal of becoming King himself. Macbeth continually faces this, contemplating the moral issue of committing murder to in turn, fulfill his powerful destiny. While facing this internal conflict, Lady Macbeth developes an influence over Macbeth as well. Driven by her own desire to be Queen, Lady Macbeth persuades Macbeth to commit the murder, by challenging his manhood and often reminding him that it is, in fact, his destiny.
indicates that Macbeth knows that Duncan is a good king but he has the greed for power that he wants to take from Duncan, showing that Macbeth will truly go to any lengths to get what he needs. Macbeth’s evil actions and thoughts show the reader that if someone has the chance at power, they could repeat Macbeth’s mistakes and try to get it themselves. Doing this can and most likely will lead to an early end of this power, which is shown in Macbeth. Macbeth loses his power rather quickly because of his ambition and want for power, leading to an army trying to kill and over take him. This also shows that power can generally corrupt someone, as shown many times throughout history with leaders and governments, who have greed for power and usually dies, or gets overthrown.
In Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, Shakespeare presents power through the main character’s objective, to become the ruler. Macbeth looks forward to his ‘rise’ as king but instead, he wants as much control as he conceivably can and this eventually leads to his downfall. He listens to the prediction of the witches and gets to be so fixated on satisfying the prediction since it states that he will inevitably get to be a ruler. Having this information, Macbeth goes out of his way to constrain the prediction to come genuine. Shakespeare showed Macbeth as a power-hungry person who goes on to commit violent and treasonous acts because of his desires.
