In the play, the witches would make many prophecies that would benefit the Macbeths, the wishes would end up being true but would be twisted which would end up backfiring on them. They both desire power and want to control medieval Scotland. Macbeth's prophecy would foresee him being the Thane of Cawdor and him becoming the king. Lady Macbeth would manipulate Macbeth to kill King Duncan, in order for her to be queen.
Macbeth would long for control and power over everyone, he believes that he deserves the throne for all that he has done for the country of Scotland. Once the witches inform him about becoming king he would start to imagine himself being the king and would then do anything to try to achieve that goal. After she convinced Macbeth they would both do anything for the crown. Their prophecies/wishes would come true but in a very warped and tragic way, they would end up being king and queen but would immediately be struck by guilt and paranoia. Lady Macbeth would end up sleepwalking which would be caused by the guilt that consumed her “What, will these hands ne’er be clean? No more o’ that, my lord, no more o’ that. Lady Macbeth's doctor would confirm that her sleepwalking is due to the pent up guilt she has for killing Duncan, Banquo and Macduff's family. In her sleepwalking episode, she would experience having blood on her hands that she can't wash away, with all her stress building up she would not be able to take it anymore and
